Can Floyd Mayweather Jr. be the Greatest Boxer Ever?

In boxing, most champions come and go like taxi cabs in a airport.

The only exception is Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather Jr.

Its umpteen years and counting since his pro debut in October 1996, yet Floyd Mayweather Jr. remains undefeated at 44-0.

That’s an amazing stat in boxing. Especially when your resume includes names like Genaro Hernandez, Julio Luis Castillo , Ricky Hatton and Juan Manuel Marquez.

Not to mention tough champions like Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya, plus deceased fan favorites Arturo Gatti and Diego Corrales with all due respect.

So again, I submit my question…

Can Floyd Mayweather Jr. be the greatest fighter EVER?

Regardless of your response, we’ll get to preview history on September 14th 2013 as Showtime PPV gives us Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Anticipation spreads to common folk as we anxiously await a Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight. The Showtime network delights in public consumption as gossip grows with every Mayweather interview. As fate would have it, everybody knows Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is on top of boxing now. We have learned to 'expect the unexpected' from Floyd Mayweather Jr. and he delivers every time. That’s what fans love about him. But that’s ‘outside’ the ring. And just like all the great fighters, Mayweather saves all his virtuoso performances for ‘inside the ring’, battering opponents with precision punches and using his elusive defense.

For now we’re left with an argument.

One side of the pillow says:

“Canelo has a great chance to catch Mayweather with one his big right hands.”

The other side says:

“This is an easy fight against a slower opponent," with great evidence of Floyd Mayweather Jr. past performances.

Either way, the fact remains.

Forty four men have tried to conquer Mayweather’s puzzle to no avail. Different fighters from all over the planet, champions and contenders, short and tall, came and went.

So whether people oppose or root for his victories, Floyd Mayweather Jr. cashes out on this upcoming fight. Pay Per View buys are expected to exceed 1 million households and he’s a 3 to 1 favorite if you’re betting.

Thus far, only one thing stayed intact. That zero on the back of 44-0.

So maybe, just maybe… Floyd Mayweather Jr. may be the greatest fighter ever?

That’s a new argument.
