NY POST COLUMNIST PHIL MUSHNICK BROOKLYN NETS COMMENT

From Jackie Robinson to Jeremy Lin,
New York City has always had its pulse on America’s integrated sports potential.
Love it or hate it, so has New York City media.
Combine them and you get something beautiful.
Embarrass them and you come up with something ugly.

My first example of the latter is a recent article written by Phil Mushnick of the NY Post whom called out Brooklyn Nets owner Jay Z.

For some strange reason Phil Mushnick boxed himself in by writing:
“Why the Brooklyn Nets when they can be the New York N——s? The cheerleaders could be the Brooklyn B—-hes or Hoes. Team logo? A 9 mm with hollow-tip shell casings strewn beneath. Wanna be Jay-Z hip? Then go all the way!”

What would ignite such unprofessional statements?

Being in NY sports for over 25 years, its possible Phil Mushnick covered some of the biggest athletes.

For example, New York is home to Derek Jeter of the Yankees, Carmelo Anthony of the Knicks and Darrelle Revis of the Jets.

How does this work?

If Derek Jeter has a good game, does Phil Mushnick write truth?
Or does he skip to ’white players’ for his column? Does he sprinkle in a little color to keep his job?
Inquiring minds want to know. I also have a few questions.
How did Phil Mushnick’s statement make it to press? Why did it bypass educated editors?

It will cost Phil Mushnick a few pennies as African American organizations look to his employer the New York Post for answers.

An anonymous source talked extensively about this topic, saying,
“Plans are being made to March over racism and its ugly tentacles with calls for Phil Mushnick to dissolve his position as columnist”.

I disagree with him on that statement.

Why?

I’ll let you in on a little secret in sports media. An unspoken one.

There is absolutely NO way on earth Phil Mushnick covers sports and really dislikes people of color. It’s impossible. Especially in new york city's melting pot atmosphere.
I refused to be bamboozled by Phil Mushnick.
This move has celebrity written all over it. He’s going to laugh all the way to the bank.
Granted, he’s way out of line but I came up with my own remedy for Mushnick.
I’d rather accompany Phil Mushnick to ‘Harlem Children Zone’ and teach sports journalism.
Trust me, it’ll be fun. We’ll dine at Sylvia’s soul food restaurant on Malcolm X boulevard while en route to our new ‘writing gig’. So in the end, Phil Mushnick will arrive back on the doorsteps of professionalism. At least I know Jay Z will be proud.

Black and white is the colors of his Brooklyn Nets logo and Phil Mushnick’s kangol.

'EAZ' ... The Grand River Hustler

Being from the Bronx has never been an automatic EZ PASS for any rapper. Just ask debut artist EAZ. "No way, not at all. I actually had to battle a few people just to make it out my hood." He says while completing the photo shoot for his upcoming Mix Tape entitled Grand River. After being privy to hanging out with a few Bronx rappers, I've come to some rather disturbing similarities amongst the chosen few. For one, most can recite rhymes from the legendary blastmaster  KRS ONE, they all speak highly of Big Pun and they usually have a friend who knows a friend who knows Fat Joe. "Its a jungle out there....." said the old school tune. Nowadays, the business of rap can be an obstacle course in itself. Let alone the street credibility and other secondary mishaps that can make or break a rapper. Ask Mysonne. Ask Chi Ali. The list goes on and on. But somewhere within walking distance of Cedar Park (birthplace of Hip Hop) lies a young animal destined to conquer t

MIKE TYSON in "UNDISPUTED TRUTH"

Re-inventing Mike Tyson will never work.  The genius behind ‘Undisputed Truth’ lies in its uncut format, exploring all that intrigues us about Tyson. Starring on Broadway, for $75 bucks, former Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson takes on his hardest opponent. Himself. This one man show was a brainchild of his current wife Lakiha Tyson, after seeing Chazz Palminteri’s show ‘A Bronx Tale’ in Las Vegas. Writing a script, casting Mike Tyson and playing at the MGM Grand Hotel in April, gave ‘Undisputed’ legs to run on Broadway. Lakiha says “ Mike was an easy sell, he really dove into his character.”  Picking up Academy award nominated director Spike Lee didn’t hurt either. Spike Lee says “It’s a great American story; we had to bring it to Broadway.”  So here onstage, audiences prepare for Mike Tyson in rare form.  No knockouts or split decisions. No police blotter or prison cells.  In fact, it’s no trouble whatsoever. All summer, ‘Undisputed Truth’ played to

SPORTS & THOUGHTS

WEEKLY COLUMN  By Deigo Mack   “True hope is swift, and flies with swallow's wings.”  ―   William Shakespeare Last week in Oklahoma City, during an OKC Thunder NBA game, play-by-play announcer Brian Davis, said during a broadcast that OKC’s star player Russell Westbrook was "out of his cotton-picking mind" after he made his ninth assist halfway through the second quarter of the team's final regular-season game.  This slip of the tongue brought about a one game suspension for OKC’s experienced announcer Brian Davis.  What a shame? The offensive statement set off a chain of reactions.   First, Davis apologized publicly for his insensitive phrase. In a statement to ESPN, Davis apologized for using the phrase, which drew criticism for its racial undertones. "It is with great remorse and humility that I accept this suspension for the insensitive words I used during Wednesday's broadcast," Davis said. "While unintentiona
