WEEKLY COLUMN  By Deigo Mack   “True hope is swift, and flies with swallow's wings.”  ―   William Shakespeare Last week in Oklahoma City, during an OKC Thunder NBA game, play-by-play announcer Brian Davis, said during a broadcast that OKC’s star player Russell Westbrook was "out of his cotton-picking mind" after he made his ninth assist halfway through the second quarter of the team's final regular-season game.  This slip of the tongue brought about a one game suspension for OKC’s experienced announcer Brian Davis.  What a shame? The offensive statement set off a chain of reactions.   First, Davis apologized publicly for his insensitive phrase. In a statement to ESPN, Davis apologized for using the phrase, which drew criticism for its racial undertones. 　 Derrick Rose Stars in ‘ The Season of the Witch’   Naysayer aside, I’m totally convinced the Chicago Bulls 2012 season has been cursed. Maybe it’s last years MVP ‘thingy‘? Or the idols…oops…I mean statues of Michael Jordan & Scottie Pippen hovering outside Chicago’s celebrated United Center? Some suggest the shortened NBA season? Or how about the NBA’s overloaded schedule? Whatever. Take an educated guess. Either way it spells trouble in The Windy City. Why? Recent knee injury, as in torn ACL ligaments, has sidelined All Star point guard Derrick Rose ending all hopes for returning to last years glory of being in the Eastern Conference Finals. As it happened, Derrick Rose blew out his left knee - while his Chicago Bulls was leading visiting 76ers by 12 points with 1:22 left in the fourth quarter. The irony lies in the fact Derrick Rose was one assist and one rebound from recording a Triple double finishing with 29 points, 9 assists, with 9 rebounds. So...

Kobe Bryant Files: ‘The Superman Edition’ by DEIGO MACK   The Kobe Bryant legacy continues this spring as the perennial All Star and part time Superhero leads his 3 rd seeded Lakers into the 2012 NBA playoffs against the scrappy Denver Nuggets - a younger, hungrier team who‘s looking to thrash Kobe Bryant and hopefully send him into playoff oblivion - once and for all. Slim chance. The final score displayed Lakers 103 to Denver Nuggets 88 in game one of the first round playoffs with Bryant leading all scorers with 31 points. No surprise considering Lakers playoff history with captain Kobe Bryant at the helm. The numbers speak for themselves. Five NBA titles, two time NBA finals MVP, fourteen All Star game appearances including four All Star MVP’s and overall 25.4 ppg. Career playoff average. Few can match his track record. Only one shooting guard named Michael Jordan precedes him on the list in total playoff points. History may one day support my latest theory. ...
